Post-Thanksgiving blues....

Yes, returning back to school after a long weekend filled with food, family, friends, and some Black Friday shopping is difficult but December is a short month.  We only have 15 more days in the 2nd quarter/1st semester.... students NEED to get in their missing assignments to teachers in order to bring up their grades.  The mid-quarter progress reports were not good... in fact, they were dismal.  Teachers are pushing students to get their work in and are available for tutoring help every advisory period; please encourage your son or daughter to be persistent and conscientious by completing work with his or her best effort. If you have any questions or concerns, be sure to email or call teachers.

Here's the weekly announcement... have a great week everyone!

Next week's schedule and activities:

Next week is a short, busy week with early release at 11:30 am on Tuesday and Wednesday due to Student Review Night.  Parents are encouraged to come to school on Tuesday, November 25th from 1-4 pm and 5-8 pm to meet briefly with your student's teachers.

On Wednesday, we will conduct our annual lock down and then off-campus evacuation drill to Waimea Canyon Park near the middle school.  We will begin the drill at 10:44 am and return to campus by 11:20 am;  then students will be released for the Thanksgiving holiday at 11:30 am.  Please support our efforts by talking to your student about the importance of this drill and school safety.  We need to conduct lock down, fire, and evacuation drills to create 'muscle memory' so that in the event of an actual emergency, students and staff will be able to react quickly and appropriately.

Thank you very much!

Mrs. Anguay

College fair, ASVAB, and Financial Aid Workshop this week.....

This week we’re continuing to focus on preparing Waimea HS students for college and career.  On Monday, we’re sending students to the College Fair at the Marriott so they can talk to various representatives from colleges and tech schools.  On Tuesday morning we will administer the ASVAB test to students thinking of going into the military after graduation and at 6 pm on Tuesday evening, our senior counselor Mr. Nitta will do a parent workshop on financial aid.  We invite all parents to come and learn more about funding post-HS educational opportunities for students.

Mid-quarter grades this week

Aloha Parents,

This week teachers will be issuing mid-quarter reports to give students and parents a read on their academic performance since returning from Fall Break.  Many teachers are telling me that students are NOT doing their assignments or studying for tests.  This is unacceptable.  Please help us support your child's progress by reminding them that their job is school.  We need everyone's help in establishing a strong sense of urgency about this; students have to take their studies seriously in order to properly prepare them for college or career.

That being said, next week is the College Fair at the Marriott and the ASVAB test on campus.  Have your child see his/her counselor to sign up if interested for either.  The end of the month is our Student Review on Tuesday, November 25th.  Please come and take time to visit with your child's teachers and see the work he/she has done this year.

Here's the weekly bulletin.... Have a good week!
