The first full week of school ended on an upbeat note for
all with an Opening Assembly that recognized our new staff and freshmen class
officers and celebrated student achievement at Waimea HS. Students were treated to a live band
performance by Still Watah and ice cream sandwiches provided by the PTSA. Then that evening, our Big Blue football team
defeated visiting Kaimuku High School 13-0 at Hanapepe Stadium! Click on the link below check out pictures of both events and
a short video on our Facebook page, The Waimea High School. Please bookmark the site and visit us often to learn more about what's going on at school.
At this week’s faculty meeting, teachers will share out
their ‘big topics’ and skills being taught by grade level and content area…. The
idea is that we will find opportunities to extend/leverage learning from one
class into another. I’d like teachers to
begin thinking about developing student projects and performance tasks that are
based upon common threads. The idea is
to continue to build students’ literacy – reading, writing, and math --- in all of their classes. Literacy is not something that only English
teachers work on; it’s something we’re all responsible for ensuring happens on
campus.
This week is also our math teachers’ first professional
development day with consultant Wes Yuu.
He’s working with WCMS teachers too so we can ensure that we are on the
same page from grades 6-12 and students have a seamless transition from middle
to high school.
Finally, this week Friday Superintendent Matayoshi and
Deputy Superintendent Schatz will be visiting WHS from 11:30 – 1 pm. They’ll have lunch on campus and then spend
some time walking through classes and seeing the various programs and great
projects we have going on at WHS.
Here’s the weekly bulletin …. Have a great week everyone!
